Chaverim Exercise Group
The Chaverim (friendship) group meets each Thursday at Rose Harrison Hall in Hackney for a gentle chair-based exercise routine, followed by a light lunch and board games or other social activity.
The exercises are designed to maintain flexibility, balance and strength as we age so that we can remain independent and enjoy life to the fullest.
Sunday Walkie Talkies
Our walking group has about a dozen regulars and a few occasional participants with an average of 10 people each week. We meet at 8:30am Sunday mornings and walk and talk for about an hour then, with good planning, finish our walk near a coffee shop so that we can continue talking.
Bagels Monthly Lunches
This is a major monthly function in the Jewish community. This group generally meets on the third Tuesday of the month. The lunch is a vegetarian or fish meal followed by dessert. There are a variety of speakers, entertainment or excursions. The highlight of the year is the Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) lunch.
Tai Chi
On the fourth Monday of the month, a small group of enthusiasts enjoy the gentle art of Tai Chi. A light lunch is provided.
Fortnightly Movies
Looking for some nostalia, something funny or something with a Jewish flavour, the Wednesday Movie Club is the place to be. Screenings are on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month starting at 1:30pm. With these afternoons comes a cup of tea or coffee.
Bus Trips
On the first Tuesday of the month, there is a small local bus trip. Local history is often explored though the destinations are decided on the day. Catch up with friends, enjoy the sights and have a cuppa.
English Conversation Opportunities
If you come from a non-English speaking background then come and practice your English with us. This time can also be used for you to ask about Australian customs and culture.
